Our mission
Insurance is full of figures that feel impossible to pin down, and the web is full of tools that fill that uncertainty with fake precision. Our mission is the opposite: to help you answer the question you can actually act on — how much coverage do I need? — honestly and clearly. Every calculator shows its formula and assumptions, and every page links to the sources behind it.
What we will never do
We will never claim to predict or quote your exact insurance cost. No tool can — your price comes from an insurer’s private rating model that weighs dozens of factors. Tools that promise a precise cost from a few questions are marketing, not math, and they can mislead you into thinking you’re covered when you aren’t. Instead, our calculators size your coverage needs using established methods (the DIME method for life insurance, replacement cost for property, net-worth-based limits for liability), and our guides explain what drives the cost in plain English. For an actual price, you’ll always need a quote from a licensed agent or insurer.
How we research
Our figures come from reputable, public sources — insurance regulators and industry bodies such as the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the Insurance Information Institute (III), government programs like FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program, and federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Labor and the Social Security Administration. Each page lists the sources behind its numbers and the date it was last reviewed. Insurance data changes, so we revisit figures and update the review date when we make meaningful changes.
Editorial independence
Insurance Calculator Tools does not sell insurance, collect quotes, or earn commissions on policies. That independence is deliberate: it means our calculators and guidance aren’t steering you toward any particular product. In the future this site may display advertising to support our work; any such ads will be clearly labelled and kept separate from our editorial content, and they will never influence the math or the recommendations on these pages.
